July 19 at Shaw Nature Center

Sunday, lured by cooler temperatures, I ventured out of the city to the Shaw Nature Center. Typically I don't walk on anything but paved paths in the summer because of allergic reactions I've had to bug bites. The weather was just too good to resist, though.

You can see from the photos where I got the idea for the name of this site, MissouriGreen.

The Echinacea was at the end of its cycle, but still lovely.

I usually miss the summer blooming season, but not this year. Because the flowers were still plentiful, I was able to see, and photograph, loads of dragonflies and butterflies. Beautiful creatures, including a green darner and cabbage white butterfly, though I'm not sure what the bronze fellow is called.

Unfortunately, I must have either strayed too close to plants, or stood too still in too many places to get photos, and ended up with chigger bites, some of which have become quite unpleasant this week. It was worth it, though.
